What You Get

Four things we refuse to compromise.

Custom Design

Every home starts as a blank floor plan. You choose the layout, the light, and how the space should live.

Premium Craftsmanship

Real materials and real joinery. Cedar beams, tiled wet rooms, and hardware chosen to outlast the trend cycle.

Thoughtful Details

Storage where you reach for it, light where you need it. Small spaces punish bad decisions — so we make careful ones.

Affordable Pricing

Direct from our shop, with no dealer margin stacked on top. You pay for the build — not the markup.

Our Work

Every home is one of one.

We don't sell a catalogue of fixed models — we design around the way you actually want to live. Here is a look at plans, renders, and finished builds.

About

Meet Matt.

I've spent the past ten years building and designing tiny homes, backed by industrial and mechanical engineering experience. I build from the ground up, because most people aren't looking for a cookie-cutter house — they have something very specific in mind, and I enjoy turning those ideas into functional, beautiful spaces.

For anyone who'd rather start from a proven design, I offer thoughtfully designed models. And for people building toward rental income, I take on larger-scale projects too.

My connection to tiny houses goes deeper than building them. The original movement was people who didn't want the compromises of an RV, wanted better materials and craftsmanship, and wanted the freedom to travel and live differently — often building for themselves, outside traditional systems, without waiting for anyone's permission. That spirit is a huge part of why I love this work.

To me a tiny home means more than small square footage. It's affordable housing, creative design, minimalism, conscious living, mobility, independence and a smaller footprint — and increasingly, a way for people to build passive income through short-term rentals.

I'll also happily point out the price gouging and inflated costs that have become normal in this industry. People deserve to understand what they're actually paying for, where their money goes, and what can realistically be achieved through good engineering, honest design, quality materials and craftsmanship.

I'm not interested in building tiny houses simply because they're trendy. I'm interested in building freedom, functionality, adventure, and a different way of living — one tiny house at a time.

More about Matt

Born in 1983 and raised in rural Florida, I grew up with a deep connection to the outdoors, a love for animals, and an adventurous spirit that has never really settled down. I feel most at home around any body of water, and I've always been drawn to movement, exploration and freedom.

I practise yoga and meditation daily, love road trips and spontaneous adventures, and have what I like to call gypsy blood — a natural pull toward travel, independence, unconventional living, and creating my own path.

Sports have always been part of my life, from growing up playing everything from soccer to skating, triathlons and water sports. I also spent roughly twenty years coaching track and field, cross country and marathon training, which taught me as much about discipline, perseverance and people as it did about athletics.

I've lived the rental side of tiny homes myself. I once operated a twelve-unit Airbnb property featuring tiny houses I built, off-grid camping and a tree fort. Building, designing, hosting and living inside that world gave me a perspective that goes well beyond construction.

Animals have always been a huge part of my life too — I previously owned and operated an animal sanctuary, and that hasn't left me. I'm the person who will stop for just about every animal on the side of the road, because if there's a chance it needs help, I'm probably pulling over.

FAQ

Questions,
answered plainly.

Can't find what you're looking for? Call us on (607) 542-6001 — a real person picks up.

Where are you based, and how far do you deliver?
We design and build in Ithaca, New York, and we've delivered homes to customers in 20 states. Delivery cost depends on distance and site access — we'll quote it up front, as a separate line, so you can see exactly what it costs.
What does a tiny home from A Tiny Getaway cost?
Because every home is custom, price follows the size, the layout and the finishes you choose — so a single sticker price would be misleading. What we will do is give you a real number early, and show you what's behind it. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll price it honestly, with no markup hidden in the middle.
Can I change the floor plan?
That's the whole idea. We don't sell fixed models — we start from how you want to use the space and draw the plan around it. The plans and cutaways in our gallery are all bespoke to the people who commissioned them.
How long does a build take?
Most custom builds run three to four months from the point your design is signed off to the day it's delivered. The exact date depends on the size and finish level you choose and on what's already in the shop, so we'll commit to a firm timeline with your quote rather than leaving you guessing.
Is the home on wheels or on a foundation?
We build on road-legal trailers — tiny homes on wheels. That's what gives these homes their mobility, and it's central to why the tiny house movement started in the first place. It also means your home is classed differently from a house on a permanent foundation, which is worth understanding before you choose a site. See the zoning question below.
Are your homes certified?
Yes — though which certification is right depends on your build. Every home we make is custom, and every state treats tiny homes differently, so we certify each build according to its design and where it's going to live. We work that out with you during the design stage, so your home arrives certified for the place you're actually putting it. Tell us your location early and we'll tell you exactly what applies.
Do you offer financing?
We don't offer in-house financing or work through lending partners. What we do offer is a staged payment schedule across the build, so you're not paying for the whole home before it exists. The milestones and amounts are set out clearly in your quote, with no surprises later.
What about zoning and permits where I live?
Rules for siting a tiny home vary by state, county and even by parcel, so we always recommend checking with your local planning office before you commit to a design. We can share the specifications you'll need for that conversation.
How does the referral reward work?
Send us your friend's details, we take the conversation from there, and when they buy you get paid — up to $2,500, as cash, upgrades, or credit toward your own build. There's no cap on how many people you refer. See the full details
